Description
The Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is one of the most popular carnivorous plants, and an excellent replacement for your fly swatter. As soon as an insect lands on one of the green leaves they’ll close rapidly, trapping the fly. As flies are the Venus Flytrap’s main diet, it won’t need any plant food. All you need to do, is water it!
Place the Venus Flytrap in a sunny spot. Make sure the potting soil is always mildly moist, but not wet. It’s best to water the plant regularly, and to give small amounts of water each time. Just enough to moisten the potting soil. What’s good to know is that the Dionaea muscipula doesn’t like the high concentration of lime that’s in tap water. It’s best to water it with rainwater or any other type of lime-free water.
